About Us

LHG skyscape fr prog

Dear Members and Friends. As a small group with limited resources we were not able to offer any online talks etc once our normal programme of meetings had been suspended due to Covid-19. There is no definite news about whether or when meetings will resume. We hope to make an announcement later this summer.

We hope you are continuing to enjoy Local History without us, either by reading about work done by other people, such as that published in Sarum Chronicle, or by continuing your own research.

If you are doing some local history research of your own, check out http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk  for the latest information on Library opening times and https://wshc.org.uk/for History Centre (Chippenham) times. An essential resource is the Victoria County History for Wiltshire, who need our help to continue their work. See their website http://www.wiltshirehistory.org for further information.

November 2021 Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Kathy Quinn. A long-time member from the earliest days in a cold and uncomfortable St Edmund’s Arts Centre, she was involved in various aspects of the Group’s activities. She was responsible for organising many of our day trips to places both local, such as Breamore House, and further afield like Romsey and Chichester. She was a speaker at our meetings and served as a committee member. In 2003 she became Chairman, serving for nine years. Following her resignation from the Chair she was appointed as our President, a position she held until her death.

The Group offers a variety of talks on aspects of local history. Meetings are held on Tuesday evenings in term time, 7.30pm, at the Salvation Army, Salt Lane, SP1 1EE, unless otherwise indicated.

Admission per meeting:– Members £2.00. Non-members £3.00.

Membership 01 September  – 31 August  £12. New members welcome – just come along. For further information contact John Abbott, 20 Highbury Avenue, Salisbury, Wilts, SP2 7EX. Tel: 01722 503339. email [delete spaces before using] johnabbott @ live.co.uk
